Barcelona - Las Ramblas
Las
Ramblas might well be the most well known street in Barcelona. This avenue,
with its wide central pavement with its crowds of strolling visitors, is usually
full of color, fortune tellers, bars, stalls… iIt runs from Plaça
Catalunya all the way down to the sea. It is always a very recommendable option
for a nice walk, even though it will probably be full of tourist. Some of
the most well-known buildings of the city are placed there: Gran Teatre del
Liceu (Opera Hall), La Casa dels Paraigües (decorated with oriental umbrellas
and dragons), etc. La Rambla is divided into different sections depending
on the type of stores placed on the main walking path; in the newspaper stands
situated in it you will find all kinds of national and international press.
La Rambla run from Plaça Catalunya down to the sea. Begin in this
popular square, where you can find the “Deesa de Barcelona”
sculpture by Clarà, and the monument to Francesc Macià by
Subirachs. Going down La Rambla, you will find the Canaletes fountain, the
Liceu opera house, the Boqueria market and a mural by Joan Miró.
Turn into the Hospital street and enter the Raval neighborhood, walking
along until you reach Jerusalem, turn right here and walk down to Carrer
del Carme and the Plaça dels Àngels. Here you will find the
MACBA art museum and the FAD art and culture centre, in front of witch there
is a famous bench designed by Miralles. Next to the MACBA there is a wall
with a mural created for Barcelona by Chillida. Go up the Montalegre street
to visit the Contemporary Culture Centre and go back to La Rambla by way
of Tallers. Go down La Rambla to the Columbus statue, and visit the viewpoint
and the port.
